Thelma (Tucker) Cooper
Thelma E. (Tucker) Cooper, 96 years of age, of West Hartford, died Monday, April 11, 2011. She was the widow of Benjamin B. Cooper. Born in Hartford on June 22, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Abraham H. and Fannie (Kriwitzky) Tucker. Thelma, a graduate of Emerson College in Boston, MA, was a member of the very first Speech Correction Program class taught at Emerson College.

She and her husband, Ben, owned and operated Cooper Jewelry Co. on Asylum St. in Hartford, that was opened in 1944. She had lived at the McCauley Residences since their opening in 1988. She was an avid golfer and walker all her life. She was a member of Temple Beth Israel, West Hartford, a life member of Hadassah, a member of the Mount Sinai Auxiliary, Jewish Children’s Service Organization, and Rockledge Women’s Golf Club Group.

She leaves two sons, Stuart T. Cooper and his wife Jodi of Hartford, CT, and Jeffrey Cooper and his wife Barbara of New York, NY; three grandchildren, Ali Cooper of California, Philip Cooper of Hartford, and Alyssa Cooper of New York City. She also leaves one beloved brother, Robert Tucker, and his predeceased wife Barbara Goldberg of Naples, FL. Her brother David Tucker, and his wife Gertrude from Canton, MA, predeceased her.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, CT with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiating. Interment will follow at the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield, CT.

A memorial period will be observed at the home of Stuart and Jodi Cooper, 35 Bloomfield Ave., Hartford, immediately following the interment through Wednesday evening.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetic Society or the Alzheimers Association.
