Edith (Kuflik) Pisk
Edith Pisk, 98, of West Hartford, died peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday (March 31, 2011). Born on April 6, 1912 in Delmenhorst, Germany she was the youngest, and last surviving child of Hermann and Marie (Silber) Kuflik. She met and married Heinz Theodore Pisk, the love of her life, in Czechoslovakia in 1937. They left there for the United States at the end of 1938, narrowly evading the Nazis. Ted and Edith celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary two months before Ted’s death in 2007.

While Ted served in the US Army in Europe, Edith supported herself doing fine custom sewing. After the war, Ted and Edith established a dental supply company, Dri-Clave Corporation, on Long Island, NY where they first imported and then championed the use of dry heat sterilizers. Ultimately, their efforts revolutionized the sterilization of dental instruments.

After retiring in 1972 they moved from Franklin Square, NY. In retirement Ted and Edith divided their time between residences in Farmington, CT and North Miami Beach, FL, at which time they became devoted tennis players and forever friends with Diana and Richard Petro. Their greatest passion, however, was always their family. Edith is survived by their daughter Miriam R. and her husband M. Stephen Miller of West Hartford; two grandchildren: Joel “Rick” Miller and his partner Lorinda Wong of Los Angeles, and Shana and her husband Stephen Kates of West Hartford and their son Jordan and daughter Madison.

Edith leaves behind many dear friends at Atria Hamilton Heights where her cheery greetings, ready smile, and friendly wave were always anticipated and always well received. We wish to give special thanks to her many guardian angels, especially Norma Anderson, Aulet McFarlane and Lawanne Harris.

A graveside funeral will take place on Sunday, April 3rd at noon at the Beth Israel Cemetery, 27 Jackson Street, Avon, with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to The Social Action Committee of Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford 06119 or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
