Irene Magun (Levine) Goldberg
Irene Magun Goldberg died after a brief illness on January 2, 2011, with her family at her side. She was a businesswoman and generous contributor to several philanthropies and most especially a lifelong leader of Women’s American ORT. She vitalized the Hartford Chapter of ORT for over 50 years, serving as president several times and also serving a term on the national board. She graduated in 1983 from St. Joseph College in West Hartford with a major in art history, and used her love of art as a docent at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford and the Hillstead Museum in Farmington. She was born in Boston in 1922, the daughter of Solomon and Annie Levine. She was predeceased by her first husband, Harry L. Magun, and her second husband, Bernard A. Goldberg. She leaves a son, Bruce E. Magun and his wife, Louise, of Portland, OR; a daughter, Carol Magun Feingold and her husband, Mordechai Feingold of Altadena, CA; a stepdaughter Judy Singer and her husband Irwin of West Hartford, and her stepson Robert Goldberg. She is survived by her sister, Eleanor Brooks of Winthrop, MA She was predeceased by her brother, Daniel Levine. She leaves behind seven loving grandchildren: Harrison Magun, Jennifer Kehoe, and Eli Magun; Koby and Ariella Feingold; Jonathan Singer and Caitlin Pach. She leaves five great grandchildren, Alastair and Adrian Magun, Lilian and Charles Kehoe, and Noah Feingold. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 11:30 AM at Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Ave.,West Hartford with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow in the Beth El Temple Cemetery, Avon. A memorial period will be observed at the home of Judy and Irwin Singer, 74 Farmstead Lane, West Hartford, following interment, and also on Friday, January 7th until 4:00 pm, and Saturday evening, January 8th from 7:00-9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Women’s American ORT, 75 Maiden Lane, 10th Floor, New York, NY 10038 or to the Cedar Sinai Rose Schnitzer Manor, 6140 SW Boundary St, Portland, OR 97221.
