Jacob R. Jacobson
Jacob R. Jacobson of West Hartford, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, (October 31, 2010). "Saba Jack" was born in the Bronx, NY on March 4, 1925 and relocated to Hartford, with his parents in 1941 upon graduating from Evander Childs High School at the age of 16. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the ETO with Patton's Third Army. On August 22, 1948 he married the love of his life and best friend, Pearl. Pearl and Jack shared sixty two years of a lifelong friendship and a beautiful marriage. He is survived by two wonderful children and their devoted spouses, David and Sandra Jacobson of Lake Worth, Florida, Marjie and Benjamin Zivyon of Bloomfield, his adoring grandchildren Jonathan, Joseph and wife Melissa Jacobson, Daniel Jacobson, Dorit Dahan and her husband Jeff and Ari Zivyon and his fiancée Vicki Taran. He also leaves his treasured great grandchildren Abby Sara Dahan, Tal Yaron Dahan, Lia Rose Dahan, and Lilly Summer Jacobson. He is survived by his brother Joseph H. Jacobson and wife Helen of New Jersey and sister in law, Selma Ginsberg of New York. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Jack's friendly disposition yielded him a wide circle of friends. He attended Brooklyn College and Hillyer Junior College where he met Pearl. He graduated from Morse Business College, majoring in accounting and later graduated from Greater Hartford Community College. Jack was a lifelong learner and avid reader. He worked for many years as the Chief of Administration for the Board of Education and Services for the Blind, State of Connecticut. After retiring from the State he kept working into his eighties. He loved his part time employment at the law firm, Klebanoff and Albano, P.C. Jack and Pearl loved attending theater performances and he also was proud of his participation in an intergenerational production of the Music Man at the Greater Hartford Jewish Community Center. He enjoyed his water exercise classes at the JCC. Jack and Pearl traveled extensively abroad and in the USA. Jack was a member of the Jewish War Veterans and Beth David Synagogue. Jack's warmth and cheerful demeanor brought smiles to all who knew him. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, (November 2, 2010) at 1 p.m. at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, Rabbi Yitzchok Adler will be officiating. Shiva will be held at his home following the burial and on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 4 - 8 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made in Jack's memory to Beth David Synagogue Kiddush Fund 20 Dover Road, West Hartford, 06119 or to the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, New England Region, 154 Wells Avenue, Newton, MA 02459.
