Harvey L. Glass
Harvey L. Glass, Ph.D., 82 years of age, of West Hartford died peacefully Tuesday, August 24, 2010 surrounded by his surviving children. Born in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Mitchell and Bessie (Rosenbaum) Glass. A graduate of Weaver High School, Harvey went on to become a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the College of William and Mary and earned his Masters and Ph.D. degrees in clinical psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. He began his career interning with the Veterans Administration at the VA Hospital in Coatesville, PA and later opened his private practice in Hartford. He was a clinical psychologist with the Children’s Service of Connecticut and served on the staff of the Hartford Rehabilitation Center. Harvey was also a highly regarded diagnostic child psychologist working with school systems across the state of Connecticut.

He is survived by son Alan Glass of West Hartford; daughter Amy Glass and husband Peter Geoffrion of Durham, NC; son Mitchell Glass and Linda Shi of Cambridge, MA; and five cherished grandchildren, Robert, Jessica, and Emily Glass, and Allana and Rachel Geoffrion; and his first wife Nan L. Glass. He is also survived by step-daughters Debbie Stein of NY, NY; Ricki Stein and Randy Bernhard of Coopersburg, PA and sons Alex and Max; and Jamie Stein and Carl Muzio of West Suffield, and son Marco. Also surviving are sister-in-law Janice Glass of Avon, and nieces Karen and Laurie Glass, nephew Mike Glass, and their families.

Harvey was pre-deceased by his beloved son David Arthur Glass; his wife Paula Stein; and his brother Norton Glass.

In addition to traveling the world with Paula, Harvey enjoyed a large circle of friends from West Hartford and from the Hartford Metro Grassroots Cribbage Club. Playing competitive cribbage, Harvey attained national Grand Master player status, but he always enjoyed a high-spirited game of cribbage with his family.

He was a member of Beth El Temple of West Hartford, volunteered at many CPTV fundraising drives, and made regular blood donations to the American Red Cross.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 27, 2010 at 12:00 noon at the Beth El Temple Cemetery, Jackson Street Ext., Avon with Rabbi James Rosen officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Harvey’s name to the American Lung Association or to the charity of your choice.

Harvey’s spirit and life will long be remembered by those who loved him.
