Dorothy Wendrow Silver
Dorothy Ruth Wendrow Silver of the Hebrew Home and formerly of Starkel Road in West Hartford died on May 19, just four days before her 94th birthday. She was born May 23, 1916 in New Britain, the daughter of Belle and Samuel Wendrow. She was the eldest of five children. She attended Hartford Schools. In 1940 she married William Silver. They shared a loving marriage for 42 years. They lived in Hartford and then moved to Farmington. After her husband's death she moved to Avon and then to West Hartford.

She was a proud employee of the former G. Fox & Co., running the telephone office and supervising that staff for over 25 years. Then she worked for the CT Historical Society where she worked with women who have kept in touch and visited with her over these past years. She volunteered at the Hebrew Home & Hospital for over 20 years.

During her working years she never worked on Fridays. That day was reserved for her mother and sister, Sylvia ---a day of lunch and shopping. She had a close relationship with all of her siblings. Both Dorothy & Bill came from large and very close knit families. It is a legacy that she has passed on to all of us. She never had a bad word to say about anybody. She was kind and appreciative of everything anyone did for her. We have all learned a lot from her and try to emulate her kindness and thoughtful and generous spirit.

She leaves to mourn her --- sons, Stephen Silver of New Haven and Alan Silver and his wife, Adrienne, of Bloomfield. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Hope. Her grandchildren were so fortunate to have her in their lives for so many years. She was so proud of all of them and was included in every occasion of their lives. They are Shawn and his wife, Tina Silver of

Clinton, and Dorothy's much loved great granddaughters Olivia and Julia. Stacy Silver of Lake Worth, FL and Brian and his wife Jamie Silver of New York City. She danced at their July wedding!!

She was predeceased by her sister, Sylvia Wendrow and her brother Alvin Wendrow and his wife Dorothy. She leaves her brother Manny Wendrow and his wife, Dora of Newington and her sister Marilyn Gordon and her husband Sidney formerly of Bloomfield and now of Boca Raton, FL , where they will be sitting Shiva.

She also leaves her brother-in-law Jacob Fagin of West Hartford, whose wife Roz predeceased him. She leaves her sister-in-law, Helen Boardman and her husband Sol of West Hartford. She also leaves her brother-in-law Edward Silver and his wife, Barbara of Las Vegas, NV.

Dorothy was a loving aunt and cousin to many. She was known for always making brownies. The entire Golden family took her in as their grandma, too! She always appreciated the visits, meals and kindness from so many wonderful friends and family members. She leaves numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Thank you to her aids and drivers while she lived on Starkel Road. She could not have stayed independent for so long without your care. A special thank you to all of her care givers these past months at the Hebrew Home & Hospital. Our family truly appreciates the loving care and kindness you gave our mom. You treated our family so kindly and were there with us each step of the way. Thank you to Rabbi Gary Lavitt for singing and praying at our side as mom passed. Hospice was wonderful as so many of them were there for mom and us to ease her way.

We wish to thank Dr. Ingrid Grafals and her staff for always fitting her in and keeping her healthy for so many years. Dorothy never had a visit to that office without bringing a batch of brownies for the ladies. Thank you to the kind and caring staff of St. Francis Hospital.
