PODOROWSKY, Jay Myles Podorowsky, 56 years of age, of Windsor, CT, after a long illness died, Sunday, September 13, 2009, in the comfort of his home. Jay was born on June 16, 1953, in Hartford, CT, the son of the late Leon and Barbara (Rosenberg) Podorowsky. He grew up in West Hartford, graduated from Conard High School in 1971, and earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from George Washington University, Washington, DC, in 1975, where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity . Jay worked for several years in the DC area before returning to Connecticut to work first for Combustion Engineering before taking a position with Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, where he worked for the next 25 years. He was most recently Senior Vice President of the Global Energy Property Division for AIG Global Marine and Energy. His long and distinguished career in the insurance industry, which included travel to Europe, Asia, South America, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, together with his good natured personality, earned him the respect and admiration of friends and colleagues worldwide. Jay was a resident of Windsor, CT for 30 years where he played for the Windsor Mens Basketball League and coached in the Windsor Youth Basketball League. He was also an avid golfer who played courses all over the US, Canada and England, and scored his one and only hole-in-one at the Avon Golf Club. Jay enjoyed all sports, and would often travel to see the George Washington Colonials basketball team play, and was a lifelong fan of the NY Giants. He will be sorely missed at the monthly poker game by his longtime friends Paul, Rich, Jim, John and Steve, whose money he won on a regular basis. From childhood, Jay was devoted to his dogs, Pretzel, MacTavish, and Finley. He also enjoyed cooking and was known for his deep dish pizza and lemon meringue pie, and hosted an annual Thanksgiving dinner for his relatives. Jay was a member of Beth El Temple in West Hartford. Jay was a wonderful, caring, generous person who will be missed and remembered by his loving family, including his sister, Marleen Denney (Podorowsky), his friend and companion, Judy Linton, numerous cousins, and his many friends. His family would like to thank the Hartford VNA Hospice program, Hartford Hospital Oncology Department, Hebrew Home Rehab Center, Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center, Lend A Hand, and the Dennis family for their care and compassion.
