Beatrice (Black) Solomon
Beatrice B. (Black) Solomon, 86, of West Hartford died Monday, August 3, 2009. She was the widow of George L. Solomon. Born in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Tillie (Strutin) Black. Bea graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1940 and was employed as a billing assistant for the Elias Glass Company and as a bookkeeper for the Gordon Fruit & Produce Company. In 1942 she and George began a courtship via letters to him overseas where he was serving in the US Army during World War II. They married in June of 1946 and had the blessing of being together for 61 years. Bea helped her husband in his accounting practice and also worked for many years as a para-professional in the West Hartford School System. She was a member of Hadassah and Beth El Temple, West Hartford where she volunteered in the office. She also gave hundreds of hours of voluntary service to St. Francis Hospital. Bea enjoyed reading, baking, playing bridge and speaking foreign languages. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and a lady of quiet dignity who will be fondly remembered . She leaves two daughters, Rita Solomon of South Windsor, and Shelley Cetel and her husband Alan of West Hartford; and two granddaughters, Tracey Cetel and Jill Cetel, both of West Hartford. She also leaves her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bette Black Glooskin, Shirley and Frank Rosenfield, Roberta and Donald Baggish; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy Katz and Edythe Lewyant and by her brother, Seymour Black.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 10:30 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, Wolcott Road, East Granby. A memorial period will be observed at 90 Fuller Dr., West Hartford, Thursday following the interment through Sunday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 659 Tower Ave., First Floor, Hartford 06112 or to The Hebrew Home & Hospital, 1 Abrahms Blvd., West Hartford 06117.
