Philip Levy
Philip Levy, 87 years of age, of Boynton Beach, FL, formerly of West Hartford and Bloomfield, CT, died peacefully at home, Wednesday, July 22, 2009. Born in Springfield, MA, he was the son of the late Jacob and Anna (Schaffer) Levy. Phil was a 2nd Lieutenant in The US Army Infantry serving in the European Theater of Operations in England and France during World War II. He held an executive position with a large food chain for over 20 years and went on to become a manager at the former Lipman Motors in Hartford. His professional career continued in the residential construction business and when he went on to manage The Louis Ertman Inc., Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors in Hartford. He was a member of the former Cliffside Country Club in Avon, CT, Tumble Brook Country Club in Bloomfield, CT, and Hunters Run in Boynton Beach, FL. He was an avid gin rummy player, recently winning the Hunters Run Gin Rummy Championship.

He was the loving husband for 66 years of, Roslyn (Waltman) Levy; beloved father of Harold Levy and his wife Judy of West Hartford, CT, Michael Levy and his wife Suzanne of Farmington, CT, Donald Levy and his wife Jane of Albany, NY; brother of Nancy Rimer of Boca Raton, FL; cherished grandfather of Benjamin Levy, Aaron Levy, Alexander Levy, Sara Chin and her husband Kevin, Kacie Levy, and David Levy; and devoted great-grandfather of Kaitlynn and Kyle Chin. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Samantha Levy; his brothers, David and Abraham Levy; and by his sisters, Syd Wertheim and Florence Levy.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 24, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, CT with interment in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, East Granby, CT. Following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Ave., West Hartford, CT; and on Sunday 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM at the home of Harold and Judy Levy, 8 Forest Hills Drive, West Hartford, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
