Hy Schwartz
SCHWARTZ, Hy Schwartz, 98 years of age, of Farmington, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at New Britain General Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Fannie and Kalman Schwartz. Hy retired in 1984, following a long career in the journalism, photographic, film and video industries. He began his professional life as a photojournalist for the Jewish Daily Forward in New York in the 1930s. For many years he was Vice President in charge of Marketing for the Kalart Corporation of Stamford and then Plainville, CT, a family business started by his late father and late brother Morris. He is a past president of the National Association of Press Photographers and the National Association of Photographic Manufacturers. He is survived by two of his children, Susan Poriss of Bloomfield and Paul Schwartz and his wife Lucy of Lake View, NY; and by his seven grandchildren, Bruce Rudman and his wife Laurie of Los Angeles, CA, Ken Rudman and his wife June of Pasadena, CA, Melissa Rockoff and her husband Rod of Las Vegas, NV, Matthew Wolpoe and his wife Rhea of Billings, MT, Shana Wolpoe of Ft Lauderdale, FL, Andrew Schwartz and his wife Lindsay Taylor of Brooklyn, NY and Judson Schwartz and his wife Amanda Steerman of Brooklyn, NY; and by his nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty G. Schwartz, his beloved daughter, Nancy Rudman, and his beloved son, Howie Schwartz, by his three brothers and two sisters, and several cousins. He also leaves his companion Dora Narzymski of Farmington. Hy loved his family, and loved playing golf and poker, right up to the last days of his life.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 19, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford. The family will observe a private period of mourning.
