Louis Fabian
Louis Fabian, 94 years of age, of West Hartford, died peacefully on Sunday, March 8th, 2009. Lou was born in Meriden, CT on June 8, 1914 to Isaac and Sophie (Balter) Fabian. He lived in West Hartford for many years before becoming a resident of the Hebrew Home and Hospital in 2002. Lou was a respected dry cleaning professional: in 1937 he traveled to Alaska to manage a dry cleaning plant, returned to Hartford where he owned a dry cleaning business, and retired in 1980 from Warehouse Point as sales manager for dry cleaning and laundry equipment. Over the years, he mentored many young colleagues in the industry and called many of his customers friends. Lou was a devoted Mason who served as a 32 degree Master of Level Lodge No. 137 A.F. & A.M. - the highest honor awarded by the fraternity. Lou was a rosarian, who took great pride in his collection of roses. For Lous 85th birthday, his children and grandchildren named a rose garden in Elizabeth Park in his honor. After his retirement, Lou volunteered at the Hebrew Home and Hospital where he tended the plants in the greenhouse as if they were his own. His other passions included woodworking and reading. With all of Lous interests, it was his family that was his anchor and highest priority: his devoted and loving wife of 70 years, Anne (Rosenberg), son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Sandra, son Richard and daughter-in-law Barbara, daughter Abbe and son-in-law Richard Primason, and grandchildren: Matt, Lawrence, Avril, Vera, Philip, and Ethan. He also leaves a sister, Lillian Blume and was pre-deceased by his two brothers, Jack and Morris. The family is deeply grateful to the staff of 4 South at the Hebrew Home and Hospital who so lovingly cared for Lou during his final years, particularly Victor and Shirley, and more recently Barbara and Mary of VNA Partners Hospice Services. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford. Interment will be private. Friends and relatives will be received at the home of Barbara and Richard Fabian, 17 Stuart Drive, Bloomfield, on Wednesday, 1:30 to 6:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hebrew Home and Hospital, 1 Abrahms Blvd., West Hartford 06117 or to the Connecticut VNA Partners Hospice Program, 111 Founders Plaza, 2nd floor, East Hartford, 06108.
