Irving W. Eichenbaum
Dr. Irving W. Eichenbaum of New Britain, and recently of Dover, NH, died peacefully at Langdon Place, in Dover , on Monday, July 21, 2008, after a long period of declining health. Dr. Eichenbaum was born in New York City and moved with his family to New Haven. He was awarded his DDS degree from the University of Maryland Dental School in 1939, after undergraduate work at the same university. He served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945. After the war, Dr. Eichenbaum returned to his pediatric dental practice in New Britain. He and his wife, Dr. Naomi (Dunn) Eichenbaum, DDS, operated the practice together until their retirement in 1995. Dr. Eichenbaum was an innovative provider of dental care for children. Long active in the American Society of Dentistry for Children (ASDC), he was a member of the societys executive council from 1961 to 1964. He was a founder and charter member of the Connecticut Society of Dentistry for Children, a state unit of the ASDC. He served terms as president of the American Association of Pedodontic Diplomates, the Connecticut State Dental Association, and the Connecticut Society of Dentistry for Children. He also was a founding member of the Friends of the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Eichenbaum is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dr. Naomi Ada (Dunn) Eichenbaum of Dover NH; children Dr. Daniel M. Eichenbaum, MD, of Murphy NC, Debora Rose ONeal, of Ventura CA, Dr. Jesse D. Eichenbaum, DVM, of Matthews, NC, Rachel S. Eichenbaum, RN, of Portsmouth NH; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Stanley M. Kessler officiating. Interment will follow in the Beth Alom Cemetery, New Britain.
