Alvin L. Berman
Alvin L. Berman, 87, died on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at the Charwell House in Norwood, MA, where he had lived for the past 1-1/2 years. Born on September 15, 1920 in Hartford, CT, Al enlisted in the Army at the age of 19. He served during World War II as an Air Mechanic with the 23rd Bomb Squadron and with the 67th Relay Station in Fiji. Al was stationed at Hickam Air Field in Hawaii on December 7th, 1941 when it was bombed. After the war, Al married Sylvia Berman, also of Hartford. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage until Sylvias death in 1991. Al was a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Jewish War Veterans, the Trench Rats and the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. He was a recipient of the Pearl Harbor Commemorative Medal as well as numerous certificates from both the Connecticut and Massachusetts House of Representatives and State Senates. He is survived by his two daughters, Leslie Rosen and her husband, Gary; and Sandye Simon and her husband, Eric; four grandchildren, Scott and Jennifer Rosen; Paul and Ricky Simon; a brother, Edward Berman and a sister, Leah Prince. His youngest brother, George, predeceased him in 2001. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT. Interment will follow in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery in East Granby, CT. Condolence calls may be made at the home of Sandye and Eric Simon on Thursday following the funeral and 7-9 pm and at the home of Leslie and Gary Rosen on Sunday, February 17th 1-4 pm.
