Marilyn Ruth (Katzen) Partney
Marilyn R. (Katzen) Partney age 75, born May 16,1932, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, of complications of lung cancer. Born in Hartford, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah (Rosenthal) Katzen and sister, Leah Darling. She moved to Pontiac, Michigan following her marriage to Joseph Z. Partney in 1954. Marilyn moved back to the Hartford area in 1978 and remained here until her death. She graduated from Weaver High School in 1950 and attended secretarial school following high school, working selling clothes and shoes until after secretarial school. She then was employed at Connecticut General until her marriage. When she moved back to CT after her divorce, she worked at Dinos Restaurant in West Hartford until her retirement. One of the most defining moments of her life involved surviving the Hartford Circus Fire of 1944. She will be remembered as an artist, for her kindnesses to her many friends and large extended family, and for her sense of humor. Her interests included reading, knitting, Disneys Goofy, and UCONN basketball. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah, and Teferes Israel. She leaves a daughter, Lynn Klees and her spouse Dan of State College, PA; and her son Philip Partney and his spouse Marjorie of Manchester, CT; 4 grand-daughters, Sarah, Samantha, Hannah and Rachel; and nine nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 25, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, with Rabbi Richard Plavin officiating. Interment will follow in the Teferes Israel Cemetery, East Granby. A memorial period will be observed at her sons home, 69 Jacqueline Dr., Manchester, Friday following the funeral through Wednesday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the Activities Fund at Federation Homes, 156 Wintonbury Ave., Bloomfield 06002, to the St. Francis Care Oncology and Hospice Unit, 114 Woodland St., Hartford 06105, or to a charity of the donors choice.
