Saul Goldfarb

GOLDFARB, Saul Goldfarb, 80, of West Hartford, formerly of Windsor Locks, died Monday, September 17, 2007. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Moses and Jenny (Furman) Goldfarb. He graduated from Windsor Locks High School and he attended Hillyer College. Saul was a US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He lived in Windsor Locks all of his life. Saul began his career in 1952, as a food broker for a local food distributor. He joined S. Vogel & Sons and PYA Monarch Food Service, which was eventually bought out by Sara Lee Corp. He received the PYA Monarch 2,000,000 Sales Award. He retired in 1989. He was a Past Master of Euclid Lodge 109, and a Past President of the Windsor Locks Lions Club. He received the Windsor Locks Lions Club Distinguished Service Award for having a perfect attendance record for 50 years. Also he received the Melvin Jones Award, and he was named Man of the Year by the Windsor Locks Chamber of Commerce. He received The Distinguished Service Award from the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Saul was a member of the Democratic Town Committee and received its Democrat of the Year Award on October 29, 2004. He was a former Park Commissioner, and was a Justice of the Peace since 1955, performing over 800 wedding ceremonies. He ran the Windsor Locks Town Auctions every year, and served as Master of Ceremony on several occasions including a Roast for the late Governor Ella Grasso. He received the Service to the Community Award from Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz. Saul enjoyed fishing and many sports and he loved the Red Sox and UConn Basketball. He also had a great sense of humor. He leaves his wife, Ruth (Lipman) Goldfarb; his son, Edward R. Goldfarb and his wife Elizabeth of Hingham, MA; his daughter, Shelley G. Gaidos and her husband Webster of Stowe, MA; five grandchildren, Drew Goldfarb, Jamison Goldfarb, Chad Goldfarb, Lauren Goldfarb, and Kayla Gaidos; and a special nephew and niece, Malcolm and Brenda Berman and their family of West Hartford. He was predeceased by his brother Benjamin Goldfarb and his sister Ethel Goldfarb Berman. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Gary Atkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, East Granby. A memorial period will be observed Wednesday following the funeral at the home of Malcolm and Brenda Berman, 85 Fox Chase Lane, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Saul and Ruth Goldfarb Scholarship Fund, c/o Windsor Locks Lions Club, P.O. Box 312, Windsor Locks 06096.
