Mortimer M. Glotzer
Mortimer M. Glotzer, 77, of West Hartford, died Saturday, (January 27, 2007) at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Isadore and Sara Saxe Glotzer. Mort attended William Hall High School in West Hartford. He graduated from N.Y.U College of Engineering, where he was vice-president of ZBT Fraternity. Mort's career as a mechanical engineer began at Hamilton Standard Division of United Aircraft where, over the next fifteen years, he became a nationally recognized authority on calibration systems. He then transferred to UA's Corporate Systems Center where he worked on, among other projects, a guidance system for the Luner Lander. In 1968, Mort moved to Combustion Engineering Nuclear Power where he worked in quality control until his retirement. In recent years, he consulted independently for various companies. Mort was an active lifetime member of Temple Beth Israel. His contributions there ranged from youth group president to president of the Brotherhood. Mort was a proud member of the Boy Scouts of America. A scout himself, he went on to serve as scout master of Troop 136 in West Hartford, Troop commissioner, and chairman of the Jewish Committee on Scouting. Among many other honors, he was recipient of the Shofar and Silver Beaver Awards for his distinguished service. Mort was a member of the West Hartford Regents, where he served as president and played clarinet and saxophone as his last in a string of many band affiliations. Mort is survived by his wife Arline; son David Glotzer of Hartford; daughter Helen Glotzer and her husband Ken Martin of Boston; brother William Glotzer and wife Jan of Glastonbury; brother Fred Glotzer and wife Rachel of Norwalk and grandchildren, Isaac and Leila Glotzer Martin. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m Tuesday, January 30 at Weinstein Mortuary. Interment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery in Avon.
