Message: I have known Thelma for over 30 years. She was an extremely generous person. She allowed my family to stay in her house many times when we were building our own. I worked with her at the Simsbury Jewish Temple when my children were young. I made it a priority to see her when I went back east to visit my family because I considered her family. My heart is saddened by the loss of a thoughtful human being from this planet. I will keep her in my heart always. Condolences to the family.

Message: Thelma taught both of my children at The Farmington Valley Jewish center. When FVJC were replacing her I stood up to the people in charge and told them I would not stand for such a cowardly act. I walked out and Thelma called me that night to thank me for standing up for her.

Message: Thelma was a very special lady...She was kind, caring, sweet, tough and gentle all at the same time. I was so lucky that she was the one who took care of my boys when they entered nursery school so long ago. She also took care of this very nervous mom when leaving my first born crying in her arms! I will never forget her...may you rest in peace dear Thelma...

Message: Mrs. Shenkman was a strong presence in my life. When I was a young girl she was the nice lady who ran the Sunday school. I later came to know Mrs. Shenkman as a caring, giving woman who shared her heart to those she loved. After I graduated college and began working in Hartford, CT, she graciously opened her Granby home to me and my cat, where we lived for about a year. During that time, Mrs. Shenkman and I became friends who kept each other company during some lonely times. I am better person for having known her kindness, and will never forget the gift of friendship. I have thought of Mrs. Shenkman often and fondly over these many years. Thank you for the opportunity to share these memories with the Shenkman family. My condolences on the passing of such a wonderful soul.
