Message: I met Howie working at the Aetna probably in 1960 or 1961. I was a young high school grad who had lost my father just before starting high school. When I started to work for Howie it was probably 1965. I was going to college while working there and Howie would talk to me with such a gentle voice, guiding me, I think even "fathering " me. It wasn't until later in life as an adult and a father that his presence in my life was more appreciated. He was so quiet, so smart, a gentleman and a gentle man! A year or two ago I saw a letter to the editor in the Courant from a Howard Falkin. I looked in the phone book and there were two listings. I wanted to call him to honestly let him know what a positive and lasting impact he had on my life. I am sorry I never did it, so I hope the family reads this and shows it to his children and grandchildren so they hear who this man was and what he was from a different person's life experience. Bless you all and I truly loved that man.

Message: To Howie's family members, my deepest condolences on your loss. Howie was more than a 'boss' when I reported to him in Operations Analyst back at Aetna. He was a mentor, and a true friend. Fair and even-handed in his dealings, forever patient, and always 'guiding' with his advice, never instructional, never ever ever demeaning in any way, to anyone. I marveled at his temperament and learned a ton from being with him. It has been a year+ since we lunched together in West Hartford, but he was often in my thoughts. Society has lost a good man.
