Message: Dear All the Friedmans: When I think of Max, I smile. As kids, when we were all at Pearl and Sam's home, he always teased us and told us jokes. I can hear his laughter. I remember going to Harmac to shop for my dad, and it was an outing- never a quick stop- as there was plenty of chatter. My sympathy extends to you all, Terry Gellin

Message: Today, I mourn the death of my first employer and the best I ever had, Maxwell Friedman. As a high school student, Max hired me as a stock boy for his haberdashery, Harmac Clothing Store on Main Street in East Hartford. During my high school and college years, I continued to work part time as a sales clerk, getting to know the business and learning what retail was all about. The wisest lesson Max ever taught me (and he taught me plenty) was that "The customer is always right!" Over a half-century as a practicing lawyer and a businessman, I learned to apply Max's lessons in my daily life, working many hours in the East Hartford store and for his brother Alvin in the West Hartford store. Beyond Max's wisdom was a sense of humor that just wouldn't quit. Over the decades, I'd drop in on Max for a cup of coffee and together recall old times. The debts I owe Max Friedman I'll never be able to repay. All my best wishes to his family. Steve Goddard

Message: Dear Claire, Alvin, and family, We will always remember Max’s great, warm smile and his laughter as he told a good joke. Max was a bright, interesting, and most trustworthy man. He so enjoyed the company of good friends, whether it was at the golf course, playing cards, working out at the JCC, or just socializing. Max was a delight to be with and always impeccably dressed. We enjoyed many long years of friendship and always looked forward to our times together in Hartford and Florida. And most of all, Claire, he loved you and was so totally devoted to you throughout your 43 years of marriage. You were his princess. He was a gracious, wonderful man whom we will all miss. We will remember him with great fondness in the days ahead. Our sincerest condolences to you Claire, and all the family. Barbara and Bob Hurwit
