Message: Dear Julie, Peter and families, I was so saddened to learn of your mom's passing. I remember first meeting your mom when I started babysitting for Peter and then Julie-she was always so kind, thoughtful, caring and had such enthusiasm for what everyone was doing. I reconnected with her at yoga-and it was wonderful to be able to share her passions. She has left a glorious legacy for you all-and I know you all have inherited so many of her qualities. Do take care. In sympathy, Terry Gellin

Message: Julie - I first met your mother when she introduced herself to me at a lecture I was giving. Her enthusiastic questions touched me and I was impressed by her intellectual curiosity. After that we often ran into each other at Whole Foods (where else?) and exchanged experiences about breast cancer. I appreciated her openness, honesty and commitment to life, and I will remember her fondly. Diane DeArmond

Message: Susan and I knew each other for over 25 years. We met at Cheese and Stuff and later we were classmates at Hartford College For Women. Despite our 30 year difference, she was like the sister I never had. She encouraged me to follow my dreams and my bliss. She championed all my endeavors and counseled me when times were hard. She was a good listener. She not only listened with her ears but with her heart. She had the uncanny ability to call at the right time. She never let our frienship drift away because life and distance can do that. She held tight with a passion that will live forever. Her frienship has been the greatest blessing and I will always hold on to that

Message: I knew from the moment I met your MOM she was someone special. Her love and passion for living were beyond anything I had ever experienced. I was fortunate enough to share in the joy of having all her family become a part of her daily life. She was a lady of high standards and strong commitment to making sure things were done right. I will always remember and value the time we spent in her backyard. I also will never forget how much I wanted to come back to life as Botchie...her dog. I swear that dog lived a better life then any human. She will always be in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her. My love goes out to all her family.

Message: Having just moved to West Hartford in 1982, I found Susan while looking for the road into the reservoir on my bike. With few new friends in this area, Susan and Donald immediately "adopted" me into their extended family. They were the West Hartford relatives I would have wished to have been born with! Although many years have passed, I still remember and admire her wisdom, kindness, generosity (to me and her community) and sense of humor. It's very sad that Susan and Donald are no longer here with us; they made the world and West Hartford better places. My deepest sympathies to Peter, Julie, Gladie, Gary, Harriet Bill and the rest of her loving family. May her memory, and Donald's be a blessing to us all.
