Message: Dear Carman and Emily, I am so sorry to hear of Michael's passing. I will always remember his gentle personality and sweet smile. He was a great husband and father. I know you will miss him greatly, but I know from experience that the pain gets less with time but the memories remain forever.

Message: I worked with Mike back in the 90's at ERL. He was, quite simply, one of the finest human beings I have ever known. His love of his wife and daughter was so clear and so honest. I loved his tales of his trips to Venezuela with Carmen! His passion for cycling and wood working were also evident. He taught me so much as my colleague and friend. His obituary has expressed who he was so well-as much as any life as full as his was could. You will always be missed, my friend. The world is a lesser place today without you in it.

Message: Michael Holtzman Our families met at the CCDC, (Capitol Child Development Center), the Connecticut sponsored facility for state employees to tend to their offspring while their parents worked during the day. Carmen & Michael’s daughter, Emily, and our daughter, Savannah, became friends. That friendship continued to grow as the girls grew through their elementary school years, into middle school, high school and beyond. We have so many memories of trips taken together, of experiences shared, of all those things which form bonds whose substance can be neither shredded nor reflection eroded even as time and circumstance dictate that we do not cross paths as often as those early years afforded. We had heard that Michael was ill some time ago. Yet we did not fully know, our oversight no fault save our own, how serious was his ailment. When we heard that Michael had passed from his earthly bounds into the realm where the spirit embraces its eternal rest, we were reminded how precious were those memories and how fortunate we were to share them with the Holtzman family. We have reached the age where the passing of friends has grown from a rarity to the more commonplace. Yet, when someone as young as Michael, succumbs to one of life’s most insidious diseases, we can find little comfort in why a Judeo-Christian God would subject any of his faithful to such an ordeal. Experiencing this more than once provides no spiritual sustenance to advance our understanding of why life unfolds the way it does. We accept that, as beings of finite intellect, we cannot fathom the infinite wisdom of the Father, yet that limitation offers no redeemable relief to assuage either our grief, or, more importantly, the members of the Holtzman family. What we do know is that we love Michael, Carmen and Emily and we profoundly cherish the times spent together and, hopefully, the times which yet remain. May God grant Michael peace, knowing that he lived fully and well, and that he did so for the benefit of his beloved Carmen and Emily. With the promise of God’s infinite love and perpetual guidance, we are, Nancy, Savannah & John Berger

Message: I was shocked to hear this sad news. Although I have been out of touch with the three Holzman brothers since high school, I have many fond memories of backpacking with Mike, Larry (who I graduated with), and Andy. Mike was one of the major reasons I too became involved in competitive cycling over 30 years ago and will never forget his on-bike style, strength, and posture; nor will I forget his off-bike kindness, demeanor, and subtle sense of humor. Best wishes to the family.
