Message: Our hearts are saddened with grief over the loss of our former neighbor and good friend "Big Al". He was my model for growing old gracefully and I will miss his great sense of humor and the jokes he would tell us. When we would visit our benches at Elizabeth Park, after stopping off at Frieda's bench, we would often stop over for a short visit with Al. We loved him as a neighbor and as a friend and still talk about his 95th birthday celebration which was a great honor. All in attendance heard how wonderful he was to both family and friends. That was an occasion often given after a person's death but Al got to hear how he affected so many lives while he was still alive. I want to public ally thank his sons for making that celebration possible. My wife and I loved your dad and will always remember him in our thoughts. We already miss him so much. May you rest in peace my friend.

Message: I will always remember Mr. Kadden in his convertible at Groton. Although I did not know him well, I felt as if I did because of all the wonderful, loving stories about him that his son Jack, my colleague at The New York Times, has told over the years. When I learned that Al had died, I felt as if I too had lost a beloved relative. My heartfelt condolences to Jack, Ellen, Sarah, David, Peter and all of the Kadden family.

Message: All the fond memories… it was only after many years had passed and it seemed that I was catching up in age, that I felt I could address “Mr. Kadden” as Al. Al was always a friendly soul that I could count on for a strong handshake, a big smile and a funny story. Our family will miss him dearly as we were very close with the Kadden family our whole lives. We send our deepest thoughts, prayers and condolences to the entire Kadden family, and will be thinking of you as you go through this difficult time in your lives. Sincerely, Jeff and Pat Israel and family
