Message: Ethel and my mother, Phyllis Labell, were friends since their early days in Hartford and remained so throughout both their lives. When I was born and then a month later, Ethel's daughter Rebecca was born, we also bonded and became friends. Ethel always seemed like a second mother to me, always greeted me cheerfully and with a smile and I will cherish but miss her presence. Martha

Message: I worked with Ethel (and Phyllis) at the Institute of Living. I spent four hours a day at the High School and 1 hour at the Nursery School. I was to "help" them get the school accredited (which we did) and work on curriculum planning. I was younger and less experienced than they, but both of them were unfailingly gracious to me. I, of course, learned much from them. Ethel always was calm and centered with her interactions with the children and the other professionals. I send you sympathy at her death.
