Message: Hal and I went one day in the winter 1978 to negotiate the purchase of a building. The owner was the son of a wealthy family and it seemed strange that he would be wearing a dime store knit cap in dayglo orange. We chuckled about that. We couldn't understand why the negotiations got hung up on whether the seller would repair the pool, on which work had been begun. "I'm not doing another thing." he told us. We couldn't let a nickel and dime item preclude the deal so we gave in, scratching our heads in puzzlement. Turned out the dayglo guy had been grouting the pool, inch by inch, on hands and knees, by himself. We laughed even more over that picture. Hal was a great guy to be with. I enjoyed knowing him and working with him. Muriel and I will miss him. Karl
