Message: When Miki was at Nottingham, he invited me to discuss a mathematics paper I had published. It was there I first met Miki and Helen. A deep friendship had started. Whenever we got together in during the years following, it was as though time telescoped and our friendship resumed seamlessly. What a blessing and joy to know Miki.

Message: Dear Helen, I am deeply saddened and somewhat shocked at the sudden death of Mickey. Mickey had such a warm way and gentle smile that he made UConn feel once again like home, as it felt some 43 years ago. Mickey extended himself to make the awards evening such a special occasion for me. In spite of coordinating all manner of things I remember Mickey sitting in the student lounge with Linda and I making sure we comfortable. He drove Linda and I back to the Nathan Hale Inn after the ceremonies. After getting out of the car and opening Linda's door he thanked us graciously and we promised each other to visit -- -- Mickey to our Maryland home, and Linda and I back to UConn. I was struck by his gentle and gracious spirit and was looking forward to reconnect. I felt very honored with the award that evening and I will remember it with our gracious friend Mickey introducing me and handing me the plaque. To me it was the award of a lifetime and our good friend Mickey framed it with his warmth. To me Mickey represented the best of UConn. He was both extraordinarily accomplished and deeply caring. With sad but warm memories, Tom McCabe

Message: Su and I are shocked and deeply saddened by Miki's passing away. Miki is so lively to us, and we remember so well the lunch we had together before Su left for California. Miki has been like a father figure to me and perhaps to many other younger colleagues, and has been very supportive since I came to UConn. Among many other things, Miki was instrumental in keeping me at UConn when I had opportunity going back to UBC. We will miss Miki tremendously.

Message: Dr. Neumann is such a nice and warm-hearted person. Even though I am here for only one year, I got a lot of help from him. I feel deeply sorry for the loss of Dr. Neumann's family. But I believe many people like me will always remember Miki and on our way of life, we will try to bring the kindness to other people, as Mike did to us. Sadly, Tong

Message: Miki was like a father to me. He helped me a lot in my math career and other places in my life, and I would never make it so far without his help. By his invitation I was intending to come to Connecticut and work with him next month, and we both were looking forward for this getting together. There is a pending paper coauthored by me and him, which may be the last professional paper that he has published. I loved Miki, and he was one of the very few true friends that I have. To me this is a big loss. I ma in a big shock and refuse to believe that he is gone.

Message: I join the many who mourn the passing of a great man, my beloved adviser Miki Neumann. Miki was a very kind and generous person and I will always be grateful for the time that he had given me during my years as his Ph.D. student in UConn. He had taught me not only mathematics but also professional virtues like kindness, respect and humility. He had made the most impact in my career as a mathematician and I owe to him the position that I have today. He had so many demands on his time but he continued to look out for his students well after graduation day. You meant so much to all of us Miki. Rest in peace. To Helen and to Miki's children, my deepest condolences for this great loss. Minnie

Message: Dear Helen, Joseph and Rachel, I am one of the (tenure-track) professors in the mathematics department, so I only knew Miki for 3 years. But during these 3 years, I quickly learned what a wonderful person Miki was. He made me feel so welcome in the math department. He always truly cared about me, about my career, about my wife and newborn baby. Early on, I also learned how much Miki cared for the math department as a whole. He was always working for all of us with so much energy and determination - his constant efforts did not go unnoticed. When he was awarded the Stuart and Joan Sidney Professorship, I realized that he was not just a good mathematician, he was a fantastic mathematician. His publication record is very very impressive. It made me proud to be part of a department who was chaired by a mathematician of his caliber. He was such a kind, kind, kind person. One of the kindest people I have ever met. I will never forget Miki. Best wishes for all of you, Alvaro.

Message: My fondest memory of Miki and his family concerns a visit to Storrs - quite a long time ago. I was delighted to spend a couple of days with Helen, Miki, and the children, while I pursued my research with our common friend Israel Koltracht. Miki and the family were a model of warm hospitality. It was always a pleasure to meet with Miki on the conference circuit - always a warm smile and easy, friendly conversation. There should be more like him - I will miss him. My condolences and sympathy to Helen and the family at their great loss. Peter

Message: Helen and family: Miki was a wonderful and warm human being who will so be missed by all who came to know him. When last he and I talked, he told me a funny story which I shall now forever remember as I think of him. And, of course, I'll remember him laughing as he told it--just as was described at the memorial service. He was such a joy to know. Michael Braunstein

Message: Dr. Neumann was my advisor when I was a Ph.D student at UConn. He is a dedicated advisor and always pushed me further in my research. Under his guidance I completed my Ph. D thesis in 3 years, got my Ph. D degree and published my thesis in 4 years. I could not achieve these without him. He was a great advisor, a great teacher and a great mentor. I will always cherish his kindness, his advice, his guidance and his friendship. I will miss him deeply. Just a few months ago, he sent me an-mail. This email was the last communication we had. Now when I reread this email, his smiling face appears before my eyes. No words can express my sadness.
