Message: I was very shocked to hear about the untimely passing of Byron. He was a wonderful and warm human being, colleague and friend from HCC. We shared many stories and experiences teaching math. I will miss him terribly. My most sincere condolences to Byron's family. May G-d comfort you among the other mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. Ilene Lerman

Message: Mr. Kopel started teaching at Somers High School in 1972. This is to the best of my memory. This is when i had him as a math teacher in my junior year. You couldn't do any less than a B with this man! My father and I would talk for years about teachers who were so good you couldn't do bad. I would note Mr. Kopel, and my father would talk about certain teachers he had in High School back the 1940's. Fond memories! Mr Kopel had this extremely organized way of presenting math on the blackboard, and he had the greatest printing! Neat, Neat! I have seen him in the past few years, one time when i was working at a local dept store, and spoke with him. I also saw him in the recent past few years maybe at the mall? In any case, he will be well remembered by me, and missed, I am sure, as a great teacher. With condolences to the Kopel family. mariam f donerian

Message: To Byron's family and friends I extend my deep condolences. I occasionally had the pleasure of sharing a luncheon table with Byron. I will miss his company this spring and I will miss seeing his smiling face around the Holyoke Community College hallways.
