Message: Barbara was a positive force in the lives of both students and teachers. My own two children benefited greatly from the enrichment program that she provided in elementary school, and the entire Granby teaching staff benefited from her advocacy of the classroom professional. Her warmth and wit--and her signature resilience in the face of personal hardships--will remain always in the memories of those who knew her. My deepest sympathy to her family and her closest friends.

Message: I have fond memories of Barbara, as a CAP teacher for Corey, as a negotiator for the teachers union when I was on the BOE, and as a friendly Granby citizen. We will miss her positive attitude and feel badly that she didn't get a chance to enjoy her retirement.

Message: I send out my heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Kelco's family--being a former student in the CAP program from elementary school through middle school, she was one of the rare teachers I had more than one year. Her program was always the most fun, challenging and intellectually stimulating I had throughout my schooling years in the Granby school system. I like to think it helped me look at all things in different ways.

Message: How sad I am to learn that Barbara died. I was the director of the implementation of the ANISA Model of Education in Suffield many many years ago now [in the 70's]. Barbara was a classroom teacher in that blessed little school named the West Suffield Elementary. And the principal was Mrs. Eileen Oleksak. And what a time we had! It was a time of high educational adventure[and no small challenge]. Barbara who was always up for something new jumped in with both feet. It was terrific working with such a brilliant teacher [and dedicated staff]. Any child who was fortunate enough to be in that school at the time has had a unique experience that will last a life time. Barbara will be missed by many, not the least me even though we were not in touch recently. Sincerely, Dick Lincoln

Message: As a friend for the past few years, and one of Barbara's dancing partners, it was an honor for me to have known her and to be touched by her life. She was embraced by her friends with great love and fondness for her independent, unique, and colorful ways. And she wasn't a bad dancer, either!

Message: Barbara taught when my children were in school. I hadn't seen her in years until I went to a ballroom competition about 4 years ago. She was competing and so was I. She loved dancing, and we had many happy talks about our crazy hobby. She was lovely, sweet and I'll miss her.

Message: Bill and I just found out about Barbie's death and were so shocked. I had just had lunch with her during her April vacation. We usually would go to Rein's Deli, but this time we met at Buckland Mall and went to Ruby Tuesdays (salad bar). We had a great time catching up (UConn days). Barbie was looking for the perfect shoes for Emily's wedding; she found them after we looked in all the shoe stores there. She was looking forward to retirement and the wedding. We will miss her.
