Message: Although I just found out about the death of my favorite teacher ever, about four years later 12/26/12,Although time has passed, I am very sorry for your loss and I am compelled to share ny thoughts. Hava Kane was my 4th & 5th Grade " High Ability" English & Social Studies teacher at Hopewell Rd. Elementary school, Glastonbury, Ct. (1964-1965.) Hava Kane was the teacher who inspired me to become a teacher. After graduation from Simmons College, Boston, Ma. I visited my Mother in West Palm Beach, Fl. and never left. For twenty eight years I taught, English and Reading to grades 6-9. For the last six years, I have been teaching High School Reading for grades 10-12. The last nine summers I taught Summer School Reading to Palm Beach County third grade students who had failed Florida's State Exam. I have been very fortunate to have been the recipient of several prestigious teaching awards, such as the " Dwyer Excellence in Educationaward -Palm Beach County, Fl. (Middle School Education). Hava Kane was the model I have used for inspiration and creativityfor thirty-four years. I will be retiring June 2015. Your Mother, or whatever connection you had with Hava Kane Dunn , I want you to know, that I would not be who I am, if Miss Kane had not challenged & inspired a little, sad Catholic girl whose parents had recently divorced me. Miss Kane became my role model for life.
